Interview with Lotta Lietz

I am from Berlin, 17 years old and have two older brothers.

I never wanted to be artist, I still don’t want to become one I think, I just like creating stuff. In primary school a friend of mine got admired a lot because she could draw well and then I decided to become better than her.  So I started getting into art and tried to teach myself how to draw.

I was an exchange student in Estonia. My exchange organisation picked the school for me before I came here. And I was already pretty excited that I was going to go to an art school so I didn’t researched more about the school. I was really happy to be able to go to a real art school with a lot of cool people.

I didn’t have a lot of expectations (of Tartu), especially because I had never been to Estonia before. I just hoped to have a good time and get to know new interesting people.

The best thing about the school are the people in it. I love how everybody is doing their own thing and literally nobody cares and at the same time everyone is supporting each other by just accepting all people around. I’ve never had the feeling I could actually be who i am without getting judged in school, but I had a different experience in Tartu Kunstikool.

I really like the windowsills in school but especially the one in room 307 is pretty cool cause always are people around to talk to and it's kind of in the middle of the school. It feels nice to know what is happening in school.

I really like Roland Seer even though I had just a few lessons with him. He is just really nice and I get the feeling he is actually interested in the student lives and wants to know what kind of art their doing. Once he took our class to his studio and i thought it was so cool and he kind of inspired me to just do whatever I wanna do, because he is obviously doing what he likes.

I get inspired by people who do what they wanna do and don’t get disturbed by others who tell them not to. I think people who are not scared of getting judged by others are the most inspiring to me.

I have a to many plans for the future, but I don't think I get to do all of those. One big dream of mine is to get a van, build a small living space in it and drive around europe for a while.

But the most important plan is to get a normal life back after the corona crisis has ended.
